Kiln Rental / Firings
Timing:
Allow up to 7 days for firing and unloading, though it will almost certainly be less and I will contact you as soon as the kiln has been unloaded. If you are in a time crunch let me know and I can give you a more precise timeline depending on what other firings are already scheduled.
General Firing:
Bisque firing: Greenware must be bone-dry. Fired to ^04 and are candled for at least 4 hours prior to all firings.
Glaze firing: Fired to ^6. There must not be any glaze on the bottom of your piece. Foot must be bare ¼” from base. Clean up fees apply if I need to clean your pieces for you.
Luster firing available. You can either book the whole kiln or wait until the next time I have enough other luster pieces to fill it.
Please let me know: clay body, confirm that it is ^6/temp range (not ^06), glaze type (is it commercial?) and if you have used this glaze before. If your glaze may drip, use cookies! Bring your own cookies. Questions? Let’s chat!
Custom and Special Handling:
If you have a different desired temperature or schedule let’s chat. Custom firing schedules add 15% to the cost and are at the full kiln rate.
Many tiny pieces may have an additional charge because it takes longer to load/unload. Have an extra special delicate piece you want to load yourself? That’s possible!
Firing Fees
Full Kiln - $90
Half Kiln - $55
Contact me for smaller or per piece firings.
Payment is due on or before pick up.
Firing Results & Damage
Firing can have unpredictable results. I can’t guarantee the outcome will be what you had expected and am not responsible for any unexpected results such as cracking, breakage, glaze abnormalities, etc. You are still responsible for the cost of the firing and if an item damages the kiln or shelves you may be responsible for the cost of cleaning or replacements.
